SHIN Hakchul (1943- ) who is known as a Minjung artist started to turn his eyes to diverse practices of art in the late 1960s. Scissors (1974) is one of his major works that was shown at the 1st Seoul Biennale. All wrapped up with strands of thread, a pair of scissors is stripped of its original attributes and objecthood, and thereby the daily object is transformed into a totally different object which is to be defined by wholly new concepts.
