Hand drawn cartoon of police arresting Miss Neligan with the caption '79 Years Old Liberal Tratment Seen in the square Last Night with all good wishes Mrs Saul Solomon 30-6-1909. This cartoon was published in Votes for Women July 9th 1909 with the caption 'Sketch by an eye-witness of Miss Neligan's arrest' and relates to the arrest of Miss Neligan and over a 100 Suffragettes on 29th June 1909 during a deputation to Prime Minister Asquith. Miss Neligan was the retired Headmistress of the Croydon High School for Girls. Votes for Women reported she was 76 at the time of arrest but the cartoon puts her age at 79.
Ada (Susan) Flatman was a salaried WSPU Organiser from 1908 and served one term of imprisonment for militancy in October 1908 for taking part in the 'raid' on the House of Commons. From 1909 she was appointed organiser in Liverpool and opened the first Votes for Women shop in the city that proved to be highly profitable. By February 1911 Ada had been appointed WSPU Organiser in Cheltenham where she adapted her organisational skills to the requirements of the local membership by organising a programme of drawing-room meetings with guest speakers from Head Office. In 1912 Ada worked as Organiser for the WSPU by-election campaigns in Hereford & Crewe. However in July 1912 Ada resigned from her role as salaried WSPU organiser for unknown reasons.
