Screaming Gorilla

Screaming Gorilla is a work by the Canadian artist Laurence Vallières (Quebec, Canada, 1986). His recycled cardboard sculptures express human emotions in the form of animals, exploring relationships, communication, and political issues through an innovative use of materials and a good dose of humour. Inspired by Art Spiegelman, George Orwell, and William Kentridge, Vallières uses animals to imitate human behaviour and invite reflection.By working with found packaging, he makes a commitment to environmental responsibility along the way: “Using garbage to make art has a political meaning when our economy is so harmful to the planet. That’s why I consider my work to be political”.
