A folding screen made to order by Olivier Sancerre, a French government official and wealthy art lover. Based on the sketches of real wildflowers, they are transformed into mysterious flowers that live quietly in mysterious lands. This is an example of decorative arts that Redon challenged in his later years, but this folding screen is particularly influenced by Japonisme (a Japanese hobby) that was popular in Europe in the latter half of the 19th century. It is reminiscent of Rinpa and Kano school folding screens.
