Phyllida Barlow’s works are physically impressive, often filling whole rooms and spaces. Her monumental sculptures are constructed from simple materials, frequently using throwaway or domestic items which make reference to structures we encounter in urban environments. Her sculptures interrupt or invade the space in which they are situated, creating in the viewer a heightened awareness of their surroundings.
