Sculptural ceramic ceremonial vessel that represents a temple in the islands ML010853

This is a sculptural ceramic bottle depicting a temple on the islands. In the islands off the coast of northern Peru offerings and sacrifices were conducted, and Moche art represents the altars built there and other ritual events performed out in the islands. This sculptural piece portrays elements of island environment in detail, such as small reed boats loaded up, and sea lions lying on the rocks of the island. (UH)

Esta es una botella escultórica de cerámica que representa un templo en las islas. En las islas cercanas a las costas del norte del Perú se llevaron a cabo ofrendas y sacrificios, y el arte Mochica también representa los altares allí construidos, así como otros eventos rituales llevados a cabo en las islas. Esta pieza escultórica presenta elementos del entorno isleño en detalle, tales como los pequeños barcos de totora con carga encima, y lobos de mar echados en las peñas de la isla. (UH)
