Between the 9th and 12th centuries, the Puuc culture in the north western Maya area excelled in the finesse and decoration of its architecture, which integrates sculpture and can be seen in Uxmal, Kabah, Sayil (Yucatán, Mexico). This Puuc column very probably formed part of a building. The god of death, master of the underworld, is here represented as a skeleton. He wears a headdress of eyes, a loincloth and ankle ornaments.
