Scyphocrinites – in contrast to their own kind that lived rooted on the ground like most of the crinoids – had a lobolite, a curious floating bulb like structure, which kept the animal afloat. Also known as water lilies, their body was divided in peduncule and couronne, with a pentagonal symmetry, also typical of actual echinoderms.
