This unusually shaped fish belongs to the seahorse family, but it doesn’t have the characteristic curled up tail.
The leaf-like protrusions on its body provide excellent camouflage for the leafy seadragon in seaweed fields. This not only helps him avoid enemies but also to vacuum up tiny shrimps and other small prey from the seabed with its long snout.
The female lays around 250 eggs in one go, which she deposits on the underside of the male’s tail.
