In the early days of naval aviation, the Portuguese naval officers Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral dared to navigate the skies, connecting Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, in the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic. Sacadura Cabral idealised this trip as part of the Commemoration of the 1st Centenary of Brazil's Independence. The "Santa Cruz" will forever be remembered as the seaplane that took part in one of the most remarkable episodes in the history of aeronautics.
