Seated Syndic: Jacob van Loon

Rendered with more delicate lines than the other two, this drawing shows the leftmost sampling official in the same pose as in the painting. The lighting and the low vantage point in this drawing indicate that Rembrandt planned the high window at the left and the view of the sampling officials from below in the painting from the outset.
