This life-size figure of Victoria throw-ing a laurel wreath to the victor used to be in the White Room in the Stadtschloß, halfway along one of the shorter walls, symbolizing Prussia’s military might. In the liveliness of its movement and in its air of graceful and timeless lightness, the light-footed form of the winged goddess of victory contrasts with the sentiment-laden, patriotic aspirations of its noble place of keeping. The form of the figure goes back to one of the Victorias that Rauch made for the Walhalla near Regensburg.
