Secret despatch from Eamon de Valera, HM Prison Lewes

From a file of material which includes original and typescript transcripts of despatches from Eamon de Valera to Simon Donnelly, acting O/C ‘C’ Company, 3rd Battalion, Dublin Brigade during Easter Week. They were smuggled out of HM Prison Lewes by Gerard Crofts, sewn into scapulars worn around his neck. Donnelly informed Michael Collins and Cathal Brugha of their contents.
