Segacielo Civita is a work by the American artist Dan Hernández (San Diego, USA,-). Embracing the unexpected relationships between the old and the new, Hernández blends video game aesthetics with Renaissance and Byzantine art forms, challenging our understanding of iconography, violence, and religious beliefs. His mixed-media creations are inspired by the imagery of Fra Angelico, Duccio, and Hieronymus Bosch, which he combines with old school video games like Space Invaders or Street Fighter 2. This clever juxtaposition of historical and contemporary sources questions our notions of age, value, and one’s own religious quest. As the artist explains, “my works are the possibilities, the ‘what if’, the maybes; they are fictions and inventions”.
