About the artist: Donald L. Dickson (Col, USMCR) (1906 – 1974)
Donald L. Dickson, USMCR, graduated in 1924 from the School of the Worcester Art Museum. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1927. Dickson landed with the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal and participated in the invasion of Guam and Tinian. He fought on Roi-Namur with the V Amphibious Corps. After World War II, Dickson accepted a position with Curtis Publishing Company but was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He served as the editor of Leatherneck magazine until he retired in 1965. Dickson died in 1974.
