This work is part of a series of self-portraits by the artist that explore the idea of transformation and impermanence.
In the work, Muniz creates a large-scale self-portrait using dried autumn leaves. He uses the leaves as a material to compose the shadows and lines of the face, creating an image that evokes the cycle of life and death, as well as the fragility and ephemerality of nature.
By using an organic and temporary material such as dry leaves, Muniz reflects on the fleeting nature of human existence, questioning the notion of identity and the idea that we are immutable and permanent beings.
