Self portrait of Savio, a man with brown hair and beard looking at the viewer.
Savio was not recognized in his own time, only after his death in 1938, at the age of only 36 years. He was one of the first Sami artists to be widely recognized and the first Sami artist to get his own exhibition at the national gallery of Norway. He also has a museum dedicated to him in Kirkenes, and a price; "Savioprisen" that is given by Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum every second year to an artist with Sami background.
