In the self-portrait included in the collection of the Museum of Art (MUSA), the artist seems to emerge from the depths of a room, surpassing the space in order to occupy and delve into another, inhabited by a character with a look of insanity. The work can be placed in the context of the series Exiliados del imperio de la razón (Exiled from the Empire of Reason), which Pacheco produced in the 1990s. The piece with the same name that also belongs to this series and forms part of the collection, depicts one of these beings that live abandoned in their own world, only accompanied by a street dog with the same defenseless look.
