Lars Hansen (1813–1872) was ahead of his time in many ways. He was a strong advocate of providing more educational opportunities for women, for instance. But it was probably more for his own survival and in continuation of a classic upper-class tradition that he created an art school for women in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1841–1843. Three paintings (all by Lars Hansen, one being the portrait of Adam Oehlenschläger) on the walls of the atelier are included in this milieu depiction of the Art School in Gothenburg. The works are currently owned by Bornholm Art Museum.
