"It is to me, who knew him in his age, entirely the germ and virtually capable contents of the man I knew" wrote Ruskin, but only guessing at the date, had the Latin label read:ÿ "J.M.W. Turner, by his hand, in the fourth lustrum of life [between 16 and 20]."
