A selfactor is a further development of a Spinning Mule spinning machine by Richard Roberts. While the machine was controlled manually by the Spinning Mule, the Selfactor was able to work completely automatically. Only to prepare the broken threads and to change the cops operating personnel was necessary. This development was particularly difficult because spinning with the Spinning Mule was a remote process and required a great deal of tact for the operator to operate the machine. The technical solution to the problem was a skilful control of all successive movements of the machine by gear transmission and clutch operations on the driving transmissions.
