A diptych made up of two separate works. In the centre of each lies a sphere of incised wax, an arabesque circle and source of propulsive energy. Domenico Bianchi
seeks beauty and poetry in relation to reality, which forms the basis for his painting.
As in the case of Marco Tirelli, the sphere is a perfectly complete form here,
the organizing centre of perception. A leading figure on the Roman art scene in
the 1980s, Bianchi resembles the other artists represented in this section of the
corridor in his effort to restore dignity to painting as skill and craftsmanship.
The creation of the work of art is a particularly elaborate process. The artist
draws up a geometric grid on the canvas and then places upon it his characteristic
serpentine figure, born out of observation of the female body, developed in an infinite
range of combinations. The curatorial decision to place these two works beside
one the other is justified by the artist’s ex post interpretation of his works as potential parts of a series. (Transl. by Paul Metcalfe per Scriptum, Roma)
