A member of the New Roman School or San Lorenzo Group together with Gianni Dessì, Bruno Ceccobelli, Domenico Bianchi, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Nunzio Di Stefano and Giuseppe Gallo, Tirelli developed his own personal artistic approach by examining geometric objects and their arrangement in space in its transformation from one-dimensionality to three-dimensionality. Deliberately choosing canvas as the support for his artistic meditations, Marco Tirelli proceeds here by causing a geometric sphere to emerge from the depths of a seductive black to create an illusionistic architectural space. The spherical geometrical element in the centre of the painting thus becomes a formally immanent emblem alluding to a spiritual dimension richly imbued with magic and sensuality. This is an art that has emancipated itself from dependency on content but possesses a strong intrinsic quality that appears to be indebted to the skills of the Renaissance.
