While the city of Seoul(Hanyang) began by respecting the natural environment and the idea of “Feng-shui,” many of its symbolic natural environments – mountains, waterways, and wind paths – have been severely damaged due to the vast urban development during the past 100 years. To this end, the exhibition suggests a master plan for Seoul, mapping out the city in the next century to come so that it can serve as a blueprint for the city’s urban development and long-term plans. Going beyond developmentoriented plans, the master plan envisions making Seoul a city with balance and harmony that connects the present and future. It also aims to make Seoul more pleasant and healthy that makes the most out of the mountain’s greenery, valleys, rivers, wetlands, waterfronts as well as the wind paths that change each season. While the proposals presented in the Seoul 100-Year Master Plan Exhibition are not fully fixed, they will serve as an invaluable database to lay the blueprint of the future of Seoul.
