From the Artist: Living in an apartment in White Plains during Covid-19, I felt acutely aware of the restrictions and dangers of the virus. From my apartment windows I watched increasing numbers of ambulances racing to White Plains Hospital as well as the erection of the hospital tents near the County Center. On TV I watched the grim news as cases constantly escalated and the death toll rapidly mounted. To keep my sanity I took almost daily walks at the nearby Rockefeller Preserve where I could submerge myself in nature. As a photographer I naturally fell into recording the changing landscape on my daily walks. My attention turned away from the illness engulfing our lives and focused instead on the beauty of nature and its cyclical march forward. In my photographs I recorded the lush, green vegetation of late summer, changing into the warm hues of autumn. In the final image of this series, the landscape has become almost barren, but not quite. A reminder of the greener days ahead and the cycle continuing right before our eyes, a profusion of green leaves survives in the foreground of this winter image. As I continue recording my journey through this time, I can’t wait for the arrival and promise of spring.
