Remarkable Parisian tree: Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), Parc de Bagatelle, Circumference: 505 cm, Height: 27 m. The giant sequoia is a species native to North America. It belongs to the Cupressaceae family, which includes the largest and oldest trees on Earth. It is a pyrophilous plant; its seeds need fire to disperse and germinate. Its bark is very fibrous and can reach several tens of centimetres in thickness, and is fireproof, protecting living tissue from fire.
