This banner is part of the museum's Community Banners project, 'Memories and Dreams'. It is symbolic of Serbian immigrants' experiences in South Australia.
The sprig of eucalyptus leaves represents settlement in South Australia. The traditional designs are taken from a Kelim, a handwoven rug from Southern Serbia. They are reminders of the continuation of traditional crafts in Australia. Turquoise blue is the colour of the Serbian Orthodox religion. It emphasises the important link between religion and national identity: a link which ensures that Serbian culture is maintained in the new land.
