Sergi Bruguera becomes the first player from Spain to win the men's singles title since 1975. Bruguera defeated two-time defending champion Jim Courier in four sets to win the 1993 French Open Tennis Championships. Bruguera was the last player to defeat the two top seeds, Pete Sampras and Courier, en route to victory in any Grand Slam men's singles event, until the 2014 Australian Open.
