Series Giovanni Paolo II

From 2002 to 2005 Ennio Calabria produces a consistent series of portraits of twenty-two paintings, inspired by John Paul II; the choice of the subject as iconography of the community, allows Ennio Calabria to capture a great deal of emotional implications of the present, the past and also the future. The concept of the portrait, in the series of works by the artist, is in a sense unnatural and the represented subject is given a personality ethereal, in which the face is straying with painting dissolved and the features of the same face are lost, dissolving slowly on background. A detailed analysis of the work in 2004 called "A Polish Pope", you can earn a colorful game of colors, in which the pictorial material seems worn by time and determines an intimate drama of the track. The facial features are upset by the suffering and the eye of the subject seems crystallized, giving the viewer a look which is a reflection of the strength of the paternal spirit.
The space in which the figure takes shape not contain any historical reference, thus giving importance to the subject, it understood as a time track. The face becomes the unifying element of the space-time coordinates, within which framework the life journey, so historic, man.
