Series of Old Masks

This piece depicts a mask from a festival of the Tenryu region where Akino was born and raised. Akino visited in 1985 and sketched 11 of the masks used in “Futokoroyama no Okunai,” a festival that takes place every year on January 3 at Futokoroyama-in and Taizo-in temples in the Tenryu Kamiatago area, on handmade bamboo paper.
