This work depicts a servant who works quietly and is faithfully restrained while awaiting his master's orders. In the background is the luxurious cotton print wallpaper of his master's room. The red color next to the white chalk that Akino favors creates a beautiful contrast against his dark skin. The impressive use of color makes it almost like a partner piece, contrasting with the work, Indian Woman with a Scarlet Stole, which debuted at the same solo exhibition and depicts a woman wearing a deep crimson stole. The colors used by Akino became much more vivid after her brush with the sights of India.
