Service to the high chiefs in form of the presentation of food at different activities, especially feasts, are carried on by men competitively, who strive to show their industriousness, skillfulness in growing large yams and generousness in making offerings to chiefs. The feast is the occasion that people express their respect, appreciation and support to their chiefs and show their pride of being successful Pohnpeians. It is also the time that social hierarchy is expressed and reproduced by spacial arrangements, verbal expressions and ceremonial practices.
