The Fricks began purchasing from elite New York retailer Tiffany & Co. in the early 1880s. The firm remained a favorite source for fine jewelry and home goods for the family; much of the silver tableware in Clayton was bought from Tiffany or Gorham Manufacturing Co. A number of trays remain in the collection, highlighting their importance in entertaining at a time when refreshments were passed by servants. From a set of three, this small tray with intricate scroll and floral patterns was customized with the Frick family crest (center).
