This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. Fujiwara no Yoshitaka (953-974 AD), captain of the Imperial Guards at the Heian court and an accomplished poet, sits in the gardens of the Seson Temple and meditates upon his retreat from society for the sake of his elder brother.
