Since it was developed in the 1940s, the rubber duck toddler toy has stood the test of time. A simple bath toy at first glance, the duck adds a friendly face to otherwise not-so-enjoyable bath time. The squeezable waterfowls also help the youngest children with hand and eye coordination. And in the later years of the twentieth century, the duck took on another role as an adult collectible. Now ducks commemorate everything from football teams to celebrities. Many early photographs, meant to show cute toddlers at bathtime, include examples of this famous toy.
