The founder of Buddhism Shakyamuni is one of the most commonly-seen subjects of thangka paintings. The one-head two-arm Buddha in this painting, looking benevolent and serene, is in the golden color all over, with Sariputta and Maudgalyayana standing beneath in the two lower corners, both of whom hold a khakkhara in one hand and a Buddha bowl in the other.
