Women's green serge bancal shawl from Ansó (Huesca). It dates from between the last quarter of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century.
Bancal is the term used in Aragon for the shawls worn by women to cover their head and shoulders. This one has three woolen sections and is rectangular. Its green color and rectangular shape are characteristic of the bancal shawls used as everyday wear by Ansó women. White semicircular bancal shawls with a central front tassel were only worn for mass on holy days.
