Some consider composer Victor Herbert's operetta "Naughty Marietta" his greatest success. Certainly his song "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life," written in cooperation with librettist Rida Johnson Young, is widely recognized, even into the 21st century. "Naughty Marietta" was remade as a film in 1935, which starred Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, and again as a televised special in 1955. Both these events helped to keep the musical, and the music, alive in many music lovers' hearts.
