Gus Kahbn did the lyrics, and Schwandt and Andree composed the tune, for the 1931 song "Dream a Little Dream of Me." First recorded by Ozzie Nelson and his orchestra, the melodramatic tune went on to be featured by many performers over the years. It gained its highest sales when recorded by the group The Mamas and the Papas in 1968, featuring the sweet and spot-on tones of vocalist Mama Cass (later Cass Elliot.) The recording heralded the beginning of the end for the pop band known for complicated harmonies and a performance at Woodstock, but it helped foster a new solo contract for Cass Elliott. In years since, other more contemporary soloists and bands have recorded versions of the song.
