By 1927 the United States was full of many first and second generation ethnic groups. One of the largest, Italian-Americans, fostered both traditional Italian folk song music as well as humorous joke songs. This example gently poked fun at the group's typical broken English while, at the same time, utilized it for clever rhyming within the lyrics.
