The classical/Rennaisance design references of the dolphin are in contrast to the 'organic' intracacies of Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo's earlier designs for the Century Guild. In the 1890s both Mackmurdo and his partner Herbert Horne evolved towards classically-inspired formalism.
