This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. The blackened teeth and shaved eyesbrows of the subject indicate that she is married. She and other patrons depart the theatre, restaurants, and tea houses of the district at dawn. Scenes like this very influencial to Western artists such as Toulouse Lautrec, Degas, Van Gogh and Manet during the Japonism movement.
