After visiting Oxford in 1998 Pistoletto decided that the Museum of Modern Art Oxford would be the perfect location to show his Mirror Works, including the recently made Mirror Sculptures.
This exhibition was the first in Europe in which the site was completely given over exclusively to the Mirror Works. The notion of turning the whole museum into a mirror, a reflecting device, and setting up this ongoing relationship with the spectator as s/he went through the rooms, was something Pistoletto found very appealing.
