The famous Mimi River flowing through the town of Shiiba was once the place of the Battle of the Mimi River. Miyazaki Prefecture, which has been heavily damaged through the years by typhoons, has been developing flood control projects since ancient times, and this dam also actively functions as a hydraulic power station.
