This print is part of Hiroshige's series "Famous Views of Kyoto". Many of Hiroshige's most successful pieces were images of famous places throughout Japan; his series "53 Stations of the Tokaido" is a classic example.

Provenance: This series was possibly purchased by the Billings women during their trip to Japan in 1898. Alternatively, it may have been a given to the family from their good friend, Sho Nemoto.
