The composition of this picture is dominated by geometric shapes formed by lattice windows and tiles. Added to this are effects of soft light and shadow, completing a highly lyrical depiction of Kyoto. The work is one in the Machiya series inspired by Maeda’s fascination with traditional architecture in the old Japanese capital.
