This print is part of Yoshitoshi's famous series "100 Aspects of the Moon" which depicts scenes from traditional Chinese and Japanese history and lore. A portrait of Yamanaka Kikanosuke Yukimori (16th century). One of the ten heroes of the the Amako Clan, some historians believe the crescent, thought to be good luck, on his helmet was his personal choice. Others say it was a practical addition, meant to be seen on the field of battle.
