Ship Levi C. Wade in San Francisco Bay on July 20 1879. Starboard view with all sails set. Black hull with yellow stripe, copper bottom. Deck houses are white. 3 crew at bow, 1 at wheel. Schooner in left foreground. Man rowing dory. Two boats in right foreground. Built at Bath in 1878, the Wade was reputedly named for the president of the Maine Central Railroad. She spent her brief career in trade to the Pacific and is shown here arriving at San Francisco for a wheat cargo. The ship was commanded by Capt. William H. Bagley every passage but one. On July 3rd, 1884, the Wade left Manila with sugar for San Francisco, and has not been seen since. Capt. Bagley was accompanied that trip by his wife, Laura M. (Barnes) Bagley, herself the daughter of a sea captain. Their daughter bequeathed this painting to the Museum.
