Rotterdam, Netherlands

The ship model is rigged without sails. The 'Padmos', built in 1722/1723 and the 'Blijdorp', built in 1723, were sister ships. Both ships were built for the Rotterdam chamber of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The 'Padmos' sailed among others to China (Canton) and left the service of the VOC in 1747. The 'Blijdorp' stranded on the West coast of Africa in 1733 and perished. By putting both names on the stern, the builder wanted to indicate that they were sister ships. Dimensions of the model are (lxwxh): 168 x 73 x 152 cm.
