The Shiwan kilns were located in Shiwan town in the city of Foshan, Guangdong province. The area has a long history of ceramics production, which reached its peak in the Ming and Qing dynasties. This pottery lion has a pair of horns on its head, eyes bulging in different directions, and a ball trapped under one of its front paws. It is both vivid and lifelike, and a wonderful example of Chinese folk art.
